Tariffs may hurt cross-border trucking

The U.S. House of Representatives recently unveiled a new amendment, which was filed but not introduced, to the budget resolution that would prohibit Congress from appropriating any money to support a cross-border trucking pilot program, The Trucker reports.

Fuel prices across the U.S. continue to rise. Many experts attribute this increase to the civil unrest in Libya, while others believe inflation to be the cause.

Many states are helping roadside inspectors by providing them with carrier-specific information from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Transport Topic reports.

In an effort to increase revenue, many states are beginning to lower tolls for truckers to attract more companies into using certain highways.

Fuel prices have long been associated with the trucking industry with regards to how it will grow or retract.

Many states currently forbid their residents from using a hand-held phones while operating a vehicle.

A recent push from The Coalition for Transportation Productivity (CTP) has urged federal legislators to reintroduce the Safe and Efficient Transportation Act (SETA) into the House of Representatives.

Drivers suffer from long detention times

Officials from the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) recently announced that a new bill may make shippers and receivers accountable for their contribution to the lack of productivity in the transportation supply chain.

Maryland officials recently announced that Intercounty Connector will improve transportation in the Port of Baltimore, the Maryland Gazette reports.
