With the Trucking Safety Council of British Columbia recently releasing its safety video Preparing for Work, the council is stressing the importance safe practices when manually handling loads and carrying heavy equipment.

The Preparing for Work video is the first of six videos created by the council to help train workers and limit workplace injuries. The video is being made available on the TSCBC's website and through its YouTube channel.

The video created by the TSCBC was also made to draw awareness to the amount of musculoskeletal conditions faced by many truck drivers, costing their companies thousands of dollars in workers compensation claims and lost productivity each year.

While these videos will help drivers with safety concerns associated with the profession, the Federal Motor Safety Carrier Administration is recommending all overweight truck drivers with a body mass index of 30 or higher should get screened for sleep apnea.

"Just about every truck driver is overweight," truck driver George Blackwell told Charlotte, North Carolina, ABC affiliate WSOC about the the recent recommendation from the FMCSA. "People in general have enough sense to know if they're tired or sleepy."
