Trucking conditions continue to improve
According to a recent report from FTR Associates, trucking conditions grew to a reading of 7 in December 2011, which is the third straight month the reading has increased, allowing for better truck driving safety. Scores above zero indicate a good trucking conditions.
The February 2012 Truck Conditions Trucking Update also demonstrates that more truckers are in high demand due to economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2011, reported FleetOwner.
"Demand for truck transport continues to grow at rates outstripping the growth in GDP," said Larry Gross, senior consultant for FTR. "We believe this growth trend will continue, barring an exterior shock to the economy such as an uncontained European default situation or a disruption emanating from the Mideast."
While trucking conditions are continuing to improve across the United States, MapQuest recently announced that it plans to integrate traffic and road conditions cameras into their maps and directions.
Traffic cameras will allow drivers to see how clear the roads are and if they have to alter their routes. They will also give drivers the opportunity to see road conditions and prepare for delays if they are entering construction zones.
