Trucking company violates federal laws

The federal government has recently made changes to rules governing the trucking industry through its CSA 2010 program. Some of these proposed changes include hours of service, electronic on-board recorders and other truck driving safety measures.

However, some companies are feeling the clamp down from federal officials for non-compliance of these key issues. For instance, JTL Carriers LLC was recently found to be in the bottom 20 percent throughout the country on the CSA's unsafe driving measure, which is one of seven yardsticks used to monitor the industry, the Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reports.

As a result, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is moving to lower the 55-driver firm's overall safety rating from satisfactory to conditional. This measure may make them less attractive to businesses that need their goods shipped.

Safety directors may wish to enroll their drivers in online truck driver safety training in order to help operators stay abreast on current rules and regulations facing the industry.

Compliance reviews are a new staple of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's program called CSA. Nearly 9,311 such reviews were conducted by the agency in 2010. Meanwhile, 6,117 state inspections occurred during the same time period.
