In Michigan State, law enforcers will be double checking high-risk spots along the highways in the hopes of decreasing crashes and accidents, reports Trucking and Freight Transportation News.

The state police will work alongside a specially implemented truck enforcement team to ensure the safety of all those on the road. The new initiative will run through to September 30th.

Officers will perform several checks and observations to the large trucks they have pulled over for the extra inspections. Included are noting driver credentials and the safety of their equipment to make sure all falls within federal and state regulations.

Violations such as speeding, tailgating, improper turning and unlawful lane changes will also be watched by state officials and truck drivers will be held accountable for the dangerous offenses.

The Michigan Truck Safety Commission (MTSC) will be funding the event, reports the organization's website. Established in 1988, the MTSC is regulated by the trucking industry and provides many programs for supporting state-wide trucker heath and trucking safety.
