Truck inspections on highways throughout the United States improve truck driving safety, while also making sure truckers are following regulations set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, according to the Times Herald-Record, a daily newspaper serving areas of New York.

Throughout his inspections, State Police Sergeant George Okst and his team make sure that truckers have everything up to code on their trucks, as well as the new technology that will allow them to comply with the recently created hours-of-service regulations, according to the paper.

"The time's a drop in the bucket, " Wayne R. DuRand II, a long time trucker based in Northfield, Minnesota, told the newspaper.

DuRand II told the source that these truck safety regulations can help save lives and the inspections are important to maintaining safety on the nation's highways.

Surprise truck inspections also recently took place in Nebraska, with Lincoln police leading trucks to designated sites to make sure they were following up with the regulations set by the FMCSA, as well as proper safety precautions, reported local CBS affiliate KOLN/KGIN.
