Special precautions taken by truckers around 9/11 anniversary

Truckers working after the 9/11 anniversary this year may want to keep an extra eye out for suspicious activity on the roads. President Barack Obama noted that there may be additional threats surrounding commemorations nationwide by way or truck or car bomb, reports LandLine Magazine.

Although government officials increased nationwide security on the 9/11 anniversary, officials from First Observer, a trucking security program, urge drivers to continue to report anything they may deem threatening as an extra precaution to ensure truck driving safety.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) alerted First Observer to potential issues last week. The Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association, which is a subcontractor of First Observer, encouraged its members to report any information they deemed useful to the organization's website or hotline.

According to the company's website, First Observer offers an outlet for civilians and truck drivers to turn to if they suspect any sort of foul play that could harm the public. This national program works closely with federal organizations such as the DHS to help truckers and others involved in the transportation industry do their part to keep roadways safe for all those who use them.
