Solutia's window film approved by the DOT
One of the greatest truck driving safety concerns is harmful UVA rays that can get into drivers' eyes and cut down their sight lines and visibility.
In order to combat the sunlight, many drivers turn to UV-blocking window films. Solutia, a leader in performance materials recently announced its LLumar AIR80 window film has been approved for use in commercial trucks by the United States Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
"While other films employ dark-colored tinting to achieve similar levels of heat rejection, LLumar AIR80 window film is light enough to meet the DOT's safety regulations for most commercial trucks as well as many window visibility laws worldwide," said Mark Gershenson, global automotive segment director for Solutia's Performance Films division.
In addition to protecting a driver's eyes from the sun, the new window film can also cut down on the amount of sunlight a driver's skin is subject to.
The DOT recently announced it would allow truckers to use window film, prompting the International Window Film Association to inform big rig truckers in the United States about the health benefits of using window film.
