Safety is the number one goal during Roadcheck 2011

Road warriors in Connecticut will be taking part in the Department of Motor Vehicles annual Roadcheck 2011, reports the Woodbury-Middlebury Patch. Many major highways will provide extra personnel to carefully scrutinize facets of truck driver safety, including capacity levels, hours on the road and vehicle inspections.

The assessment will include checks on height and weight requirements, proper lighting, secure brake systems and a correct log book of shift completed. Some officials will be monitoring the roads themselves outside the weigh stations to further supervise potential hazards.

The state of Maine will also be increasing its inspection efforts during the event, reports news station WABI TV.

Police officer Jason Sattler hopes to catch truck drivers who are potentially endangering themselves or others on the road.

"Most of the companies try to keep their equipment as safe as they can, but there's a few out there who feel like they want to put their money somewhere else," Sattler told the news source. "So this is a good reminder that they need to keep the things safe."
