Safer roads in Nebraska a concern of many

Created: Friday, February 10th, 2012 02:01 pm

During a recent news conference, Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson announced he plans to deploy road crews on more than 20 of the state's roads and bridges, which have been in need of repairs for a long time.

Nelson also composed a letter to Federal Highway Administration official Victor Mendez, asking the administrator to help him figure out the proper steps to take and documents to fill out in order to get the state moving on such road repairs.

“I’m pushing to get Nebraska roads and bridges that have been damaged by flooding – as far back as 2008 – on the front burner for repair and completion soon,” said Nelson. “Nebraskans remain deeply frustrated as to why permanent repairs have not moved forward on even the simplest of reconstruction projects for roads damaged by flooding."

With an emphasis on truck driving safety, Nelson wants to get these roads and bridges fixed sooner rather than later.

According to Nebraska ABC affiliate NTV, residents in the Broken Bow area are petitioning to make the state's roads safer.

The news source said their petition is titled "Put on the Brakes," and is being organized by residents pleading for the state's drivers to be safer.
