Provisional bridges quickly created in Maine after storm damages
Truckers who haul freight through the state of Maine and up into Canada can drive again, thanks to temporary bridges that have opened along some of the state's highways, Bloomberg Businessweek reports. These necessary structures have been created due to the existing bridges being severely damaged during Tropical Storm Irene.
To fund these quick fixes, the state is being granted $1 million in government funding so truckers and other motorists can continue to use the roadways for transportation and business. Drivers can be ensured that trucker safety is a top priority and that more permanent solutions for the roads are being currently discussed, states the news source.
The bridges will link important pathways between Maine and Quebec that many fleet management owners send their truckers on to pick up or drop off freight in both countries, The Houston Chronicle reports. Special work crews built the bridges during additional shifts to open the roads as quickly as possible, so locals companies and residents could use the roads while the more perennial structures are being planned.
