PennDOT plans trucking safety seminars

Created: Wednesday, March 14th, 2012 03:01 pm

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation recently announced its plan to create a number of learning opportunities for trucking companies and safety coordinators to improve trucking safety within the state, reported Fleet Owner Magazine.

All drivers, trucking company representatives and safety representatives throughout the state are encouraged to attend these learning sessions, which are believed to be worth the one-night stay at the hotels where the events will be held.

Transportation Safety Days will be held on May 3 at the Double Tree Hilton in Green Tree, July 19 at Penn State in State College and October 30 at Mansfield University in Mansfield, which will be presented by the state's department of transportation, public utility commission and state police, said the magazine.

Another means to improve driving safety in the state is coming from the Pennsylvania Turnpike's plan to encourage all motorists to purchase the E-ZPass device by implementing a surcharge of 76 percent for motorists who don't use the device.

The E-ZPass is the states way of getting rid of tollbooths altogether, which will cut down traffic and reduce the amount of starting and stopping drivers have to do on the state's highways.
