New fact sheets released to help truckers

Created: Monday, January 23rd, 2012 02:01 pm

A new batch of fact sheets has been released by the Compliance, Safety and Accountability program launched by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which discuss a number of issues grouped in the Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Category.

The BASIC fact sheets are Unsafe Driving, Fatigued Driving (Hours-of-Service), Driver Fitness, Controlled Substances/Alcohol, Vehicle Maintenance, Cargo-Related and Crash Indicator, which all provide information in an effort to improve trucker safety and performance.

"Motor carriers and drivers should read all seven of these new fact sheets to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the CSA program and, more specifically, the BASICs," said a release from the FMCSA.

The FMSCA was also recently in the news when it decided to not change the 11-hour daily limit for commercial drivers.

Anne Ferro, administrator of the FMCSA, told The Trucker that the agency is pleased with the amount of research that was done concerning potential changes to driver regulations. Ferro believes the research indicates truckers will be able to remain healthy and safe while driving, while also getting the amount of sleep necessary to work the full 11-hour day.
