NTTC added to the list of trucking organizations that support EOBRs

The mandate requiring companies and drivers to log their hours using electronic on-board recorders (EOBRs) has received much scrutiny for harassment from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. However, due to changes, the technology is being welcomed by trucking organizations.

For instance, the National Tank Truck Carrier (NTTC) recently announced that it supports the mandatory electronic logging devices for documentary compliance with hours of service rules, Trucking Info reports.

The NTTC voted to support the EOBRs because they will greatly contribute to improved working conditions for professional drivers, which will be a factor as capacity tightens and recruitment grows more challenging.

"Personally, as a former professional driver myself, I have been a strong proponent of in-cab technology for years," Steve Rush, NTTC chairman, told the news source. "Our NTTC membership recognizes that (EOBR) will allow all carriers to equally police themselves which can only lead to safer, better operations across the board"

The FMCSA reports that, nearly 540,000 vehicle truck inspections occurred between October and December 2010. Moreover, state authorities conducted nearly 1,300 compliance reviews during the same time period.
