MTA and the ART seek to influence lawmakers

Created: Thursday, January 19th, 2012 02:01 pm

In an effort to showcase the importance of the trucking industry, the Mississippi Trucking Association and the America's Road Team recently brought Interstate One, a high-tech trailer, to the Mississippi State Capitol.

Lawmakers were able to climb inside the custom-made trailer and cab to see the range of visibility for truck drivers. Members of the Mississippi Trucking Industry believe this demonstration will give lawmakers a better idea of what mandates should be passed to improve truck driving safety.

The event also featured National Truck Driver of the Year Rickey Oliver, who talked about safety, as well as David Roberts, president of the MTA, who made himself available for interviews with the press attending the event. America's Road Team Captains also attended the event and discussed the issue of high-tech safety technology and safety on the highways.

While the MTA looks to alter the regulations passed for truckers, Xata, a fleet optimization software company, announced it plans to hold a users' conference for XataNet and Xata Turnpike users and others in the trucking industry, to discuss ways to improve efficiency in the industry.
