Local New Yorker honored for success in truck driving safety and compliance

Receiving a national honor as a truck driver can be thrilling and is often much appreciated by hard working truckers. For instance, retired New York resident Paul Welker recently was given the Gold Achievement Award by the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) for his career achievement and adherence to trucking safety standards.

According to Metro WNY, Welker started his career behind the wheel in 1946 at only 16 years old. For the next 50 years, the veteran trucker took jobs throughout the country, with some assignments bringing him from East Coast to West Coast in only a few days. He still teaches sometimes at the local compliance training for truck drivers school.

"Wherever I worked I was driving a truck. I drove all over the United States,” Welker told the news source. "I drove well over four million verified miles."

According to the ATHS website, this organization has been preserving trucking history throughout North America, Australia and around the world since the early 1970s. Truckers who have recently completed their CDL training may want to join groups like these to gain a further appreciate for their new career.
