Leading trucking group opposed red light cameras in Pennsylvania

Although many trucking organizations put truck driving safety at the forefront of their efforts, some think that regulations can go overboard and become excessive. The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) has been focusing on Philadelphia and a proposal to extend the red light camera bill that has been monitoring speeding and running lights for all motorists in the city.

According to Fleet Owner, some officials against the bill say that there are too many variables that can cause a misrepresentation of the driver's actions. Truckers may be wrongly ticketed or accused of violations, which could cause unnecessary waste of time and revenue for both drivers and those involved in fleet management.

"Pennsylvania’s use of the enforcement tool is primarily focused on filling coffers instead of simply trying to keep people safe," Todd Spencer, executive vice president of the OOIDA, said in a statement.

Truckers who have recently completed their CDL training should be aware of the laws and regulations that are in effect throughout certain states, which may vary region to region. This information can prevent problems in the future and keep all motorists safe on the nation's highways.
