Improvements in the works for North Dakota's highways

Created: Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 04:01 pm

North Dakota is making improvements to their highway conditions to ensure trucking safety in one of the busiest areas for big rigs, reports the Oil and Gas Journal. While these roads are being fixed, the North Dakota Petroleum Council has been collaborating with The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) to develop innovative programs for reaching all motorists about driving safety on the damaged highways.

The oil fields in state are the cause of high-traffic levels, especially along main routes such as Highways 2 and North Dakota 8. Although these roads do not have heavy backup, the constant use has caused some areas to crack and break.

A new public safety campaign, called Drive Safety, is focused on warning truck drivers and other motorists about the hazardous road conditions while they continue to be repaired. An estimated 10,000 trucks use North Dakota roads daily.

According to the organization's website, the NDDOT was established to promote economic growth and protect all those who utilize the roads and highways for business and pleasure throughout the state.
