FMCSA changes alert symbol on website to better reflect trucking safety ratings

Created: Thursday, March 10th, 2011 04:01 pm

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently announced that it has settled a suit with a small group of truckers over carrier information made public through the recently launched Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program, Today's Trucking reports.

Officials told the news source that starting March 25, the FMCSA will replace orange "ALERT" symbol on its website with an exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle. Furthermore, there will be an explanation that the symbol does not imply a specific safety rating.

"We believe these changes will disabuse shippers and brokers of the misconception that safety measurement system methodology, percentile rankings of carriers, and monitoring thresholds are intended for their use in determining carrier fitness," National Association of Small Trucking Companies, said in a release.

Employees may want to enroll in online truck driving regulation training courses to help them understand the new guidelines and CSA 2010 compliance standards.

According to the FMCSA, more than 9,300 compliance reviews were carried out at the federal level, while more than 6,000 occurred. These inspections are part of the administration's new proposal in regards to regulating the trucking industry.
