Expert: Regular maintenance is key to adhering to CSA 2010

The implementation of CSA 2010 did not happen without some opposition from members of the carrier industry. Some companies were worried that the public release of their scores would harm their reputation or unfairly portray their performance.

However, there are many ways that safety directors can use to ensure that their teams are in compliance with the new regulations. For instance, they may want to consider enrolling their employees in online driver training courses.

Professionals who are familiar with the mandates are also offering their advice on how companies can achieve a good score card. For example, David Saunders - CEO of Compliance Safety Systems and active member of the CSA 2010 Task Force - recently released a statement that outlined his suggestions for safety directors' success.

"I would be concentrating on how proactive you are on a day-to-day basis with your data by showing due diligence in equipment repairs and driver correctness, not when it updates in the MCMIS or when an officer tells you about it," he said.

Individuals who have completed driver safety training programs may be more aware of the measures they can take to perform routine maintenance on their fleets.
