Emission reduction efforts recognized by ATA
At the recent American Trucking Associations (ATA) Management Conference and Exhibition in Texas, several individuals involved in the trucking industry were recognized for their contributions to the SmartWay programs. Sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency, this initiative aims to reduce the harmful emissions released by trucks nationwide.
"Earlier this year when the Obama administration released its historic fuel economy standards for large trucks, I hailed it as a model for how the government and industry can work together as partners to craft sensible regulations," Bill Graves, chief executive officer of the ATA, said in a statement.
Graves added that the awards given to these individuals and trucking companies coincide with the greener initiatives that are being put into place throughout the country.
Some of the SmartWay award recipients include the IKEA Transportation team, Dave Guernsey from UPS and Mike Kelly of YRC Worldwide.
Truck drivers who are working on their CDL training may want to further research some of these new regulations that are going into effect, which could help maintain safety and protection while on the road.
