Colorado truckers join together through TAT

Created: Friday, February 3rd, 2012 02:01 pm

According to Denver ABC affiliate KMGH, truckers across the state of Colorado are banding together in a non-profit group called Truckers Against Trafficking, to raise awareness in the industry about the dangers and signs of human trafficking.

"Traffickers are recruiting kids out of our schools and out of shopping centers," Kendis Paris, national director of the TAT, told the news source. "Truckers are the eyes and ears of the nation’s highways, so they see things that the general public usually doesn’t."

Paris told the news source she is working to maximize trucker involvement in the program, which would improve trucker safety by identifying traffickers and taking them off the roadways.

Dwight Gaiter, retail operations manager at Johnson's Corner, a Colorado truck stop located south of Loveland, told the news source he has informed his staff and truckers entering his establishment to look for the telltale signs of trafficking, including a fidgeting or unhappy child.

On its Facebook page, TAT shares more relevant information, including a hotline number to report suspected trafficking.
