Boston residents ask for trucks to re-route out of the city

Some areas of Boston, Massachusetts, are difficult to navigate, due to the outlay of the city being designed in colonial times for horses and pedestrians. Truckers who drive through this metropolis must be extra cautious hauling their freight through narrow, curvy roads. Recently, there has been discussion between the people who live in the North End neighborhood of Boston and fleet management owners because residents are concerned about trucks bringing hazardous materials through their streets, The Boston Globe reports.

Advocates for re-routing the trucks say they are worried about vehicles that carry hazardous materials getting into accidents and burning the buildings in the area.

On the other hand, officials from the Massachusetts Motor Transportation Association (MMTA) say the long way around may cause unneeded stress for trucking companies and a loss of revenue.

According to the organization's website, the MMTA supports trucking companies in their goals of safety and security while balancing its business' success as well. The group encourages state residents to inform themselves on this trucking issue so both locals and truckers can reach a healthy solution.
