ATA wants to work with FMCSA on CSA program

Created: Thursday, March 22nd, 2012 01:01 pm

American Trucking Association President and CEO Bill Graves recently reminded the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration of the problems within the Compliance Safety Accountability system.

"From the outset, ATA has been supportive of the objective of CSA - to reduce crashes and save lives by focusing on real-time, performance-based data," said Graves. "Also, we have been gratified with how willing the agency has been to make needed improvements to the program."

In order to improve compliance training for truck drivers, the ATA is willing to work with the FMCSA to provide better outlets for testing carriers' CSA scores for better readings on the safety precautions driver are taking.

According to Graves, the ATA is providing the FMCSA with a list of solutions to help this safety program reach its potential to put safer drivers on highways throughout the United States.

With all of these restrictions being placed on truck drivers throughout the nation, El Paso, Texas, NBC affiliate KTSM reported drivers have to jump through many hoops to be considered safe drivers, by not being found guilty of traffic violations, as well as having up-to-date equipment.
