Trucking weight limit exceptions are being made nationwide

As the debate over nationwide trucking weight limits continues to be a hot topic, some are concerned about the exceptions to the rule that are slipping by the regular limitations. According to The Times Daily in Tennessee, President Barack Obama has already allowed more than 20 states to carry commercial loads of more than 80,000 pounds of material. Although the limit is 80,000 pounds, some trucks in places like Maine and Vermont can transport more than 100,000 pounds in their big rigs, which is sanctioned by the U.S. government.

Weight limits are put into place to ensure trucking safety and keep all motorists on the highways protected from potential accidents. However, some say that although freight may be high in demand, increasing weight limits could negatively affect the trucking industry by allowing more potentially dangerous situations to happen on the job.
