Trucking organizations talk to federal government about new guidelines

Many rules and regulation guiding the trucking industry have been addressed and, in some cases, altered to increase trucking safety as well as the security of the public. As such, members of prominent organizations representing the interest of freight haulers have stepped forward to make sure these new proposals are fair.

For instance, officials from Women in Trucking (WIT) recently met with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in an effort to address regulations impacting the industry, Trucking Info reports.

The discussions involved changes in parking issues, hours of service and fatigue. Meanwhile, the NTSB listened to thoughts from both the WIT and the American Trucking Associations about safety issues on the road.

"The opportunity to meet with Chairman Hersman went beyond my expectations," Sherri Fronko, Wilcox Trucking and 20-year veteran driver, told the news source. "She is a real person who listened and cared about what the driver advisory committee had to say."

Compliance reviews are a new staple of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's program called Compliance, Safety, Accountable (CSA). Nearly 9,311 such reviews were conducted by the agency in 2010. Meanwhile, 6,117 state inspections occurred during the same time period.
