Protests against poor trucking conditions held in California
There has been some recent controversy surrounding the trucking ports in Oakland, California, in terms of the conditions that some drivers have to work under while navigating nearby roadways. According to India West, hundreds of protesters blocked some of the ports in town this month in solidarity with the truckers who work hard to deliver goods in the state every day.
Some find that the long hours and pay are not enough compensation for the hazards of a trucking job. Others think it is harmful for professionals to be exposed to the emissions and pollution that can compromise trucker health .
The aim of the occupation was to raise awareness about these issues and catch the attention of the large companies that own some of these trucking businesses.
Some truckers were in full support of this movement, and say that things must change to keep their jobs worthwhile and desirable, reports the San Francisco Bay View. They hope these types of protests may have big companies thinking twice about the benefits and salaries they are providing their truckers and how they may be less than adequate in comparison to the nature of the job.
