Police and truckers struggle to work together harmoniously

Truckers need to do their jobs, as do the state troopers and police officers who monitor the nation's highways. Sometimes, the relationship between law enforcement and drivers can be strained, as both attempt to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. Recently, in Minnesota, trucking officials asked their local police officers to be a little more lenient when it comes to regulating truckers' fatigue, reports Trucking Info.

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) has brought the matter to court, stating that the group feels excessive police monitoring on truckers is violating the drivers' 4th amendment rights.

Although many truckers adhere to specific road regulations, police officers in New York are also upping the ante when it comes to checking for truck driving safety and making sure these drivers are adhering to their compliance training for truck drivers. According to The Post Journal, checkpoints have been set up along the roads to watch for trucks that may be overweight or drivers who are working beyond the allotted time frames. Although these stops may slow drivers down, they can be essential to preventing future accidents.
