Planned new screening process for truckers at New York and Canadian border

Hauling freight across the borders of Canada and Mexico is sometimes and important facet of business for fleet management owners. The border between Niagara Falls in New York and Canada is one of the busiest in North America. According to Trucking Info, a recent proposal hopes to alleviate some of the traffic that truckers must face on this congested border-crossing highway.

Endorsed by New York Senator Charles E. Schumer, the bill hopes to invoke a pre-screening method for Canadian trucks before they begin to cross the busy Peace Bridge that links the two countries.

As of now, all trucks must be cleared through American border control. Schumer says traffic would be greatly decrease if Drivers from Canada were already given the green light to cross.

The bill could have 90 percent of the vehicles ready to cross with only 10 percent needing additional screening, reports WKBW News New York.

Officials say that the idea can help make deliveries faster and decrease stress among motorists who are on the roads with the large amount of big rigs.
