Pipeline gas shipping methods given overhaul in Alaska
Some Alaskan truckers have the important task of transporting natural gas supplies throughout the massive state to areas that are sometimes difficult to reach. Not only does this type of precarious material require recurrent hazmat training for drivers, but the rugged highways of the region can also present challenging conditions. Recently, officials have been discussing better ways for truckers to haul fuel into the interior parts of the state to ensure trucking safety, the Daily News Miner reports.
In the city of Fairbanks, some experts say that a pipeline would be the best solution to transport natural gas to the area. However, some claim trucking is a just as viable option. Other areas of the country have managed to supply residents and commercial businesses with natural gas by utilizing the trucking industry as the only means of shipping the fuel, such as in New England.
According to United Press International, the talks about introducing new pipeline to Alaska to better transport the natural gas supply in the state continue to progress, but so far no tangible plan has been made into effect.
