Officials looking to improve border check near Niagara Falls

The region around Niagara Falls on the New York and Canada border is being discussed in the trucking industry, due to its high traffic areas and its importance in cross-border transportation. One of the ways some would like to improve the conditions of hauling freight from New York to Canada is by developing and investing in new technology that can regulate trucking safety and increase the speed in which big rigs can be checked. Some new methods that have been introduced as ideas are utilizing hand-held scanners or to allow drivers with long-standing clean records to bypass some inspections.

Trucking Info reports that some of the crossing areas lack sufficient staff to keep traffic flowing and the process stress-free. Some say more officials are needed at the checkpoint to assist, especially post 9-11 security increases.
