OOIDA encourages truckers to talk to their lawmakers about truck speeds

Created: Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 03:01 pm

After the Owner Operate Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) recently announced a call to action for truckers to contact their lawmakers over a new bill that would expand areas that allow 65 mph speed limits for cars and trucks, there's a lot of rumbling in the Illinois statehouse.

Lawmakers are currently discussing many factors that go into the bill, including truck speeds, weight and lengths, as well as the commercial distribution fee, according to Land Line Magazine. Officials of the association told the news provider that this could be great news in terms of safety regulations.

"When vehicles travel at or near the same speed, the need for passing, lane changes, tailgating, and other maneuvers that create opportunities for drivers to make mistakes is minimized," Todd Spencer, OOIDA executive vice president, told the news provider.

In order to increase safety precautions, truck drivers may want to consider enrolling in online truck driver safety training so they can learn to maneuver safely around moving traffic.
