Created: Friday, October 21st, 2011 05:01 pm

Some officials from the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) are concerned with the recent remarks made by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) about recent discussions concerning rules and regulations for the trucking industry. Officials from the OOIDA said the group was overlooked when conversations were occurring about topics such as fuel mileage standards.

Todd Spencer, executive vice president of the OOIDA, expressed in a letter {wrote a letter expressing} his feelings about the misrepresentation. Spencer said the organizations felt that the OOIDA was not equally represented next to the American Trucking Associations (ATA). Since small trucking business{es?} make up the majority of big rig drivers on the road, he stated, the group was surprised to learn that the EPA claimed the OOIDA was consulted extensively in recent regulatory discussions.

According to the OOIDA website, this organization has been a voice and platform for small trucking businesses, drivers and fleet management owners throughout the U.S. and Canada since 1973. Truckers who have recently completed their CDL training may consider joining these types of groups to gain support and information regarding their new career.
