New bill designed to provide incentives to trucking companies that switch to natural gas

Created: Thursday, April 7th, 2011 03:01 pm

A new bill aimed at providing alternatives to diesel fuel was introduced in the House of Representatives recently. The proposal will give significant incentive for the purchase and use of natural gas and vehicles, Fleet Owner reports.

The proposal, which is called the New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act, is intended to provide financial benefits to those who begin to use natural gas. It will include tax credits for the purchase of natural gas vehicles, retrofitting diesel or gasoline vehicles, buying natural gas, for the building of natural gas stations and home refueling units.

"This comprehensive legislation is driven by the need for America to quickly reduce its dependence on foreign oil while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gases and urban pollution," Richard Kolodziej, president of NGVAmerica, told the news source.

Online truck driver training courses may help new and experienced operators learn the benefits of using natural gas systems rather than diesel fuel.

The U.S. Department of Energy reports that diesel prices have currently reached $3.98, which is almost a dollar increase from a year ago.
