NPTC supports EOBR requirements

Electronic on-board recorders (EOBR) are meant to take the paperwork out of drivers' hands and input hours of service (HOS) information into a computerized logbook. However, this device has been met with stiff opposition from the trucking industry because of the harassment some operators endure.

The National Private Truck Council (NPTC) recently followed other prominent trucking industry organizations in supporting the mandatory EOBR rule, Trucking Info reports.

"It is going to happen," Rick Schweitzer, NPTC board member, told the news provider. "This is one time we can be on the side of the angels, we can be the good guys saying we support technology to help us comply with HOS rules."

For instance,The group had a few conditions for its support such as the technology must be cost effective and accurate as well eliminates all supporting documents requirements to take the burden off the driver.

Under the proposal by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, violators of the EOBR requirement would face civil penalties of up to $11,000 for each offense. As a result, safety directors may wish to enroll their drivers in online truck driving regulations training to keep their operators current with industry trends.
