Groups gather in Washington in the name of trucking

Truckers and industry organizations are doing what they can to have their voices heard in Washington when bills are being passed that will directly affect their livelihood. This February, several groups and truck drivers will be meeting in the nation’s capital for an event called Stand Up for Trucking, which hopes to advocate and support positive bills and laws in favor of the industry.

Roughly 10 organizations are slated to attend, including the National Industrial Transportation League, the National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council (NASSTRAC) and the American Truck Associations.

All those involved in the different aspects of trucking, whether it be navigating the roadways or feet management, are joining together to help pass the right bills that will ensure trucking safety and economic success. On the agenda are maintaining the allotted hours on the road instead of reducing them and pushing for more funds to be used for highway repairs.

"It says a lot about how important these issues are - not only to the trucking industry at large, but also to their customers who have responsibility for managing complex supply chains," Michael Regan, chairman of the advisory committee for NASSTRAC, said in a statement. "Never before have the advocacy interests of both motor carriers and shippers dependent upon over-the-road trucking been more closely aligned."
