FMCSA pushes for improved accident data collection for truckers
Accidents on the road can occur in a number of different ways, from fender benders due to inclement weather or a full crash because of intoxicated driving. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) wants to ensure that the data collected on trucking mishaps is concise in the future, so that those who drive big rigs will be held accountable for their minor or major collisions.
The occurrences surrounding an accident have so many variables, the FMCSA says that drivers' records should be more specific when it comes to highway errors. The database helps fleet management owners in the trucking industry gain knowledge on potential workers in regards to how the employee has maintained their trucking safety requirements through experience or CDL training.
A new proposed feature of the database could allow drivers and trucking companies to scan the police reports that coincide with the incident so that others may learn the details of specific accidents. This information can prove lucrative(different adjective)when analyzing commercial truck driver's past performances, which may help the overall protection of all motorists on the road.
