Log InWomen In Trucking plans to help female drivers with scholarships
Trucking on the open road is not just for the boys. Many women are involved in this industry and do an exemplary job in hauling the nation's important freight to and from destinations across the country. Recently, the Women in Trucking (WIT) association announced it plans to offer scholarships to deserving female truck drivers who wish to pursue trucking careers or better their current position.
At the end of August, committee members from WIT gathered to discuss the possibilities of this program.
The idea of grants for female truckers was inspired by WIT member Jeana Hysell from Ohio who received The Ohio Trucking Association’s Safety Professional of the Year award for her achievements. She gave her winnings to WIT to help other females succeed in the business. Hysell has navigated the roads for years, earning more than two million accident free miles.
According to the organization's website, Women in Trucking provides support to females in the commercial freight hauling industry by offering advice on various topics, including CDL training options and how to find employment, to ensure women are professionally represented in this field of work.
