WIT looks backs on their successes of 2011

With the year quickly coming to a close, many truckers are reflecting back on the highlights of 2011 and what changes occurred within the industry. The Women in Trucking (WIT) organization, for instance, recently spoke about their group’s accomplishments and what they hope to do in the near future for female truck drivers.

Over the summer, representatives from WIT traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with officials from the Department of Justice. Issues such as violence against truckers and equality were discussed during the meetings.

Hundreds of female truckers were honored at the WIT’s annual Salute to the Women Behind the Wheel conference in Kentucky, which was deemed a success and welcomed many experts in the industry as noted guests.

This year was also the first time WIT offered scholarships for CDL training, joined in on several advisory boards and established the Influential Woman of the Year award.

According to the WIT website, this organization has been expanding and evolving since 2007, offering support and information for female truckers throughout the U.S., England, Australia and Canada. They now have more than 1,800 members representing individual drivers as well as corporations who wish to better the careers of the women who navigate the nation’s highways.
