U.S. and Mexico reach trucking agreement, but funding remains unclear
President Barack Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon recently announced the agreement that any truck based in Mexico that operates inside the U.S. must install an electronic onboard recorder (EOBR). However, it is still unclear as to whether or not these devices will be paid for by the Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCSA).
Fleet Owner reports that many truck drivers are not happy with the agreement because of the uncertainty as to where the money would be coming from.
"Well, saying the FMCSA is paying for them is the same as saying American taxpayers are paying for them," Norita Taylor, spokesperson for the Owner-Operators Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), told the news provider. "If that money comes from the Highway Trust Fund, then it is even more of an insult to truckers since that money is meant for U.S. highways and is paid into mostly by truckers."
Truck drivers who are interested in expanding their knowledge of the industry should consider enrolling in online truck driving training courses.
