Trucking salaries predicted to progressively increase

Those who have considered becoming a truck driver and completing CDL training may have more of an incentive than ever, as wages for truckers are steadily increasing, Trucking Info reports. Experts say that by 2014, salaries for drivers may grow more than 30 percent. These larger numbers may be due to fleet management owners needing more drivers, which has become prevalent in the recent shortage while freight hauling needs are increasing.

Jeff Kauffman, an analyst from Sterne Agee & Leach, said, "The truck driver population is growing at less than 1 percent a year. Freight’s growing at closer to 4 percent."

If hauling demands continue to rise, owner-operators in the truck industry may have to offer additional incentives to truckers so they can keep up with necessities, which may include increased compensation in the near future.

According to The Seattle Times, other aspects besides demand are factoring into the estimated rise in salary for truck drivers. Federal compliance laws are shrinking the times truckers are allowed on the road, which has owners seeking extra employees to compensate. These inflations may conversely affect freight costs and change the way owners manage their expenses.
