Trucking jobs continue to grow in January

Created: Monday, February 6th, 2012 02:01 pm

According to recent figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the for-hire trucking industry added 5,300 jobs in January on a seasonally adjusted basis, while the U.S. employment rate dropped to 8.3 percent.

Compared to figures from last January, payroll employment of for-hire truckers increased 4 percent, demonstrating that truckers receiving the necessary CDL training may be able to find jobs, with more trucking companies hiring entering 2012.

According to the Commercial Carrier Journal, these employment numbers fail to track trucking related jobs in other industries, such as private fleet truck drivers, meaning there are even more readily available jobs for truckers.

According to Central Illinois Proud, Illinois is seeing a larger demand for truckers, and training companies are able to place truckers in line for success.

"We are hooking up with several different trucking companies, once our students graduate, to help them find jobs and to link them with these different companies where they can gain experience," Sarah Dewey, a marketing associate with truck driving training company, told the source. "Eventually they're going to move on, maybe one day own their own truck, open their own company."
