Trucking industry tries new way to give back to the community

Owners of trucking companies and their drivers often give back to their communities through donating to various organizations that take care of those in need. John Christner, chief executive officer of John Christner Trucking, has been implementing a new method to choose which groups receive funds, reports The Trucker.

For two years, Christner has been granting some of his employees $100 each to use however they please, as long as it helps someone in need. His truckers have done deeds such as buying clothes for the homeless and helping others pay medical bills.

Christner says he hopes his efforts will continue to grow and be a positive impact on his staff and those they help.

"The results have been amazing, even phenomenal," he told the news source. "This is about giving someone in your workforce the power to do something for mankind."

According to Trucking Info, at a recent conference held by the Truckload Carriers Association, Christener explained his proposal and urged other fleet management owners to introduce similar programs in their own businesses.
