Conventions about the nationwide trucking industry can be a fascinating way for new truckers who have recently completed their CDL training to learn about what it takes to be behind the wheel of a big rig. These events can also benefit fleet management owners who wish to learn how to better organize the logistics side of their companies. Recently, the U.S. Freight Sustainability Summit was held in Washington, D.C., and was attended by many involved in the industry to discuss the future of trucking and its environmental impact, reports Fleet Owner.
Large companies that are involved in hauling freight spoke about their efforts in maintaining sustainability among their fleets. Home Depot, for example, spoke about the changes in the Safe and Efficient Transportation Act (SETA) and how it has positively impacted the corporation.
"Transportation accounts for about 50 percent of Home Depot’s carbon footprint," Lindsay Chason, senior manager for environmental innovation at Home Depot, said in a statement. "For Home Depot and other companies, SETA represents an opportunity to safely boost our environmental sustainability and productivity."
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sponsored the event along with the American Trucking Associations and the Retail Industry Leaders Associations, the EPA's website states.
