Created: Wednesday, June 29th, 2011 05:01 pm

An innovative trucking company is answering the call to find solutions for high fuel costs. Ryder System, which specializes in commercial transportation and supply chain management solutions, recently leased a new fleet of trucks that run on natural gas.

Ryder will make these new vehicles available to other trucking-based companies. Golden Eagle Distributors has already come aboard with a contract for 22 of the trucks.

The project is in association with various organizations that aim to streamline fuel effectiveness, such as the California Energy Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy. The new alternative gas-powered trucks will have various options for pit stops and new shops catering to the modern vehicles in several areas of California.

President of Global Fleet Management Solutions for Ryder, Robert Sanchez, says the new steps the business is taking towards fuel-efficiency will benefit everyone in the trucking industry involved with the business.

"We are fundamentally giving private fleets an alternative to ownership - helping them implement sustainable transportation alternatives by tapping into Ryder's investments in technology, people, safety, fueling, and maintenance and service infrastructure," he told the news source.
