With many military personnel coming home, there will be many more candidates for trucking companies, which are looking to get away from older drivers and shift to a younger generation of employees, according to the source.
"Just about every one of the primary motor carriers out there is looking for truck drivers to fill their truck shortages," Dennis Hilton, vice president of safety for Cal Ark International, told the news source. "There's going to be a lot of military people that will be out looking for jobs not only in truck driving but in transportation, people with logistics experience, with management experience."
Ex- military personnel looking to get into the trucking industry will likely be looking to complete online CDL training, which will allow them to get into the industry faster and make themselves more attractive to employers.
While the trucking industry may be looking for military veterans to fill job vacancies, the Democrat and Chronicle, a news source servicing Rochester, New York, has found many young veterans returning home are finding a tough job market. The source cited census statistics showing 11.3 percent of veterans between 18 and 34 are unemployed.
