Trucking allies say thanks to drivers
Law enforcement who monitor the highways and truckers who use the roads for their business have to work together closely to ensure trucking safety and protection of all motorists. Recently, police officers and other officials in Canada have been thanking truckers for their patience and compliance by offering some food and fun at certain checkpoints, reports The Whitecourt Star.
At the weight station near the town of Whitecourt in Alberta, Canada, local and international drivers who pass through were greeted by a barbeque meal while their equipment was inspected. The event was sponsored by the Alberta Motor Transport Association.
Doug Hazzard, safety supervisor at Cliff's Towing, says he hopes the program is a way to celebrate trucker health and awareness.
"We try to make sure that everybody does what's necessary to be safe," he told the news source.
In the U.S., TravelCenters of America will be sponsoring an event at one of their new truck stops in Texas, reports Trucking Info. This will not only drive business to their new facility, but also is will promoting safety and wellness among their best customers.
The local radio station will broadcast the celebration and singer Teri Hart will perform for the passing drivers.
