Truckers volunteer to deliver wreaths to Arlington Cemetery
When truckers donate their time to move special freight for free, it shows a true sign of dedication and respect for the worthy cause. For example, the Wreaths Across America foundation has loaded up its convoy of 80 big rigs to bring thousands of wreaths from Maine to the Arlington Cemetery in Virginia, reports WLBZ News in Bangor.
The initiative hopes to honor fallen soldiers who have fought in past and present wars and offer a sign of respect to their families and friends. Participating truckers will also be stopping at other locations along the way, including homes of veterans, schools and monuments to pay their respect to soldiers and their loved ones.
According to the Wreaths Across America website, this organization based in Maine has been delivering wreaths to Virginia since the early 1990s, when founder Morrill Worcester wanted to connect his national pride with his successful wreath business. Truckers who have recently completed their CDL training and wish to get involved in some of the charitable acts that need truckers can consider joining groups like this.
