Trucker training initiative application period extended
A $1 million training program called BuildUP, presented by the Maryland State Highway Administration, recently garnered so much attention that it extended its application deadline to February 3, 2012, reported TheBayNet.
The program will train 150 participants in Computer Aided Design and Drafting systems, construction craft skills and also help them with the necessary CDL training.
Those accepted into the training program will also gain access to job placement assistance through networking, job fairs and on-the-job training, which will place drivers with the right certifications into jobs in the trucking industry.
Aspiring trucking professionals interested in applying for the training program can visit the SHA website.
Given the limited space in programs such as BuildUP, drivers and trucking companies are encouraged to investigate online CDL training, which offers a convenient, cost-effective and rigorous alternative.
More news affecting the trucking industry in Maryland comes from The Capital, which reported that bridge tolls in the state are set to increase for commercial vehicles.
Teri Moss, spokeswomen for the Maryland Transportation Authority, said that commercial vehicles take up more of the road, which is why they will see higher toll increases than other vehicles.
