Trucker health and reduced traffic the goal with reduced tolls in Texas

Truckers trying to hit strict deadlines during the holidays are under added stress in an often hectic time. However, state officials in Texas are looking to help out these drivers and those in charge of fleet management by offering a reduced toll rate of some of the major roadways, reports Fleet Owner.

Some of these rates will be a third of what they normally cost, most adding up to what regular motorists pay to drive on the roadways. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is doing what they can to make tolls stay reasonable not just over the holiday but year round. Last March, the fees were already reduced significantly to support these efforts.

"The department is continuously looking for ways to free up capacity on I-35, and encouraging trucks and through traffic to use the bypass is one of those ways," Phil Wilson, TxDOT executive director, said in a statement on the organization's website.

New truckers in Texas who have recently completed their CDL training can enjoy the lower toll rates until January 4th. The TxDOT is also looking into making these lower rates more permanent in the future, which could benefit all commercial drivers on the state's highways.
